Applications:

It is a mixture of solid fatty alcohols, primarily containing 1-octadecanol. It is pH stable and does not readily become rancid. Stearyl alcohol has weak emollient and emulsifying properties, increasing the viscosity and consistency of emulsions. It is used in the formulation of creams and ointments, both in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, especially those where water or an aqueous solution is desired, as it increases water absorption capacity.
